Cowboy Poetry Contest

Rules and Guidelines:

  • One entry per contestant. Contestants must compose their own poems with no assistance from any outside source. 

  • All entries must be received between December 1, 2017 and January 1, 2018.

  • Poems must be submitted in a word document, as well as accompanied by a video clip of the writer presenting the poem. The video can be no longer than 5 minutes in length. 

  • Poems must be humorous. 

  • Top three winners will have an opportunity to perform their work live on stage at the Cattle Industry Convention or via video if not in attendance. 

  • Five finalists will be selected by NCBA on January 2, 2018. Public voting on the videos will open January 3, 2018 and close on January 15, 2018. 

  • Top three winners will be announced on January 16, 2018.

First Place: 

  • Will perform poetry work live on stage at the Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, February 2, 2018
  • Free trip to the 2019 Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show in New Orleans, Lousiana to include a $500 Travel Credit, One Full Registration including Cattlemen's College, and one hotel room for three nights
  • Poetry work to be published in the National Cattlemen Magazine and on NCBA.org (pending proof of copyright information can be provided)
  • Poetry work to be published in the Where Food Comes From Magazine (pending proof of copyright information can be provided)

Second Place: 

  • Will perform poetry work live on stage at the Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, February 2, 2018
  • One Full Registration to the 2019 Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show in New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Poetry work to be published on NCBA.org (pending proof of copyright information can be provided

Third Place: 

  • Will perform poetry work live on stage at the Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, February 2, 2018
  • $100 Cabela's Gift Card
